Advancing Our Economy
Through Our People.
The Philadelphia Workforce Investment Board envisions a thriving and inclusive regional economy, with increased economic opportunity and prosperity for our entire region. Philadelphia’s economic future demands that we act now. A city’s economy is driven by the skills and qualifications of its people, and today’s jobs demand complex problem solving skills, skills that many Philadelphians have not yet acquired. For Philadelphia to remain competitive in the new economy, it must develop the skills of its people. If it does, Philadelphia will be extremely well positioned to compete and prosper in the new economy, but if it does not, the city will face increasing challenges in retaining the businesses that are here now and attracting businesses in the future. Founded in 1999, the Philadelphia Workforce Investment Board is a nonprofit organization governed by a volunteer Board appointed by the mayor of Philadelphia. The Philadelphia Workforce Investment Board works to align the skills of the region’s labor force to meet the needs of industry, in support of the region’s growth and prosperity.
